Michael S. Humphreys was born in Columbia City, Indiana to East Tennessee transplants, Fred and Marlene Humphreys. He has called the Appalachians of Northeast Tennessee home since he was 12 years old.
Humphreys has a BS in Journalism from East Tennessee State University where he also received a commission into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. During his 25 years in the Army, he served multiple combat tours including Desert Storm, Kosovo and two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom. In December 2013, then the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Humphreys retired from the Army while serving the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command at Peterson, Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Since retiring from the Army, Humphreys returned to his family home in Greeneville, Tennessee with his wife Jessica and their dogs. The couple recently purchased an historic home on 30 acres in Rogersville, Tennessee where Humphreys hopes to pursue farming, perfect the stories he has collected over the years as well as create new stories to be written.
Humphreys has no children of his own, but he has served as mentor and father figure to Jessica’s son, Joshua Langdon since he was 12 years old. Joshua is an Army veteran and now pursuing a career in Federal Law Enforcement.
Humphreys' mother and extended family still reside in Greeneville, Tennessee and his wife’s parents Richard and Linda Brown live near the gateway to Smoky Mountain National Park, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
